Frequently Asked Questions

Ultrafiltration membranes feature pore sizes between 0.01 to 0.1 microns. They effectively filter out suspended solids, colloidal silica, bacteria, viruses, macromolecules, and silt density index (SDI) compounds.

UF delivers permeate with an SDI (Silt Density Index) consistently <2.0, significantly reducing RO membrane fouling frequency, doubling RO membrane life, and lowering operating CIP costs.

Inside-out membranes feed water inside the lumen for uniform flow, while outside-in membranes handle higher feed solids and turbidity (up to 100 NTU) with air-scour agitation to prevent clogging.

Automatic hydraulic backwashing occurs every 30-60 minutes using UF permeate water. Chemically Enhanced Backwash (CEB) with hypochlorite or acid is executed daily to remove organic biofilm and mineral scaling.

UF operates at low transmembrane pressure (TMP) between 0.5 to 2.5 bar, making it an energy-efficient physical barrier for surface water and tertiary wastewater treatment.
