Frequently Asked Questions

UV systems emit germicidal UV-C light (wavelength 254 nm) which penetrates microbial cell walls, damaging DNA/RNA bonds to permanently neutralize bacteria, viruses, giardia, and cryptosporidium without chemicals.

UV treatment provides instantaneous disinfection without adding toxic chemicals, altering water pH/taste/color, or producing harmful carcinogenic disinfection byproducts (DBPs) like trihalomethanes.

Quartz sleeves enclosing UV lamps must be kept clean of mineral scale and bio-film. Manual or automated mechanical wiper systems use mild acid to wipe sleeves clean every 1 to 3 months.

High-output amalgam or mercury UV lamps maintain effective germicidal dosage for 9,000 to 12,000 operating hours (~1 year of continuous operation), after which lamps must be replaced.

High turbidity and low UVT absorb UV light before it reaches microorganisms. Pre-filtration (at least 5 micron) is mandatory before UV treatment to ensure maximum germicidal dosage delivery.
